This mid-career survey by Julie Mehretu (born 1970, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia). Covers more than two decades of the artist’s examination of painting. Of history, geopolitics and displacement. Comprising around thirty paintings. Forty works on paper dating from 1996 to the present day. The exhibition presents the most comprehensive overview to date of the practice of Mehretu. His explorations of abstraction. The architecture. Landscape, scale and, more recently, figuration.

Julie Mehretu is curated by the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The exhibition is organized by Christine Y. Kim, curator of contemporary art at LACMA. With Rujeko Hockley, Assistant Commissioner at Whitney.
