Gilman Contemporary presents Maria Svarbova-Yesterday’s Future. The exhibition will present 20 photographs. Including works from his famous Swimming Pool series. The exhibition will present photographs of the famous swimming pool by Slovak artist Maria Svarbova. And will include works from the most recent Lost in the Valley. Playing from June 15 to July 30.

From his Swimming Pool series in 2014. Svarbova created an instantly recognizable aesthetic. The swimming pool is supported by public spaces. Built in the socialist era and explores space. The color and the atmosphere. Each image carefully orchestrated. Illustrates Maria’s vision of humanity in the public sphere. The scenes are filled with modern freshness. Which highlights the depth and range of its creative palette.

Slovak architecture.

Svarbova has gone beyond Slovak architecture with its swimming pools. But his work remains separate. In her series Lost in the Valley, she applied her signature aesthetic to the arid landscape of Death Valley. These cinematographic images are dreamlike. The models seem frozen in time. But the work has a silent, modern and fresh tension.

In 2018, Svarbova was recognized as a Hasselblad master. Her work has been featured in publications ranging from CNN and The Guardian to Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue.
