Meltem Işık was born in Ankara. She received her BFA in Graphic Design from Bilkent University, Ankara, and her AAS in Jewelry Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York. In 2011, she received her MA from the Department of Visual Arts at Sabancı University, Istanbul. Since 2016 she is working on her PhD in the Design, Technology and Society program at Özyeğin University.

The human body.

Through intricate compositions of photographic images, Meltem Işık explores the way we see and perceive the human body. The complexity that originates from the capability of our bodies to see and be seen simultaneously provides the basis of her work. In addition to her solo exhibitions titled “Twice into the stream” (2012) and “Suspicious affinities” (2015) at Galeri Nev Istanbul, works by the artist have been the subject of international art fairs and group shows including “Photography in Days of Pandemic” Istanbul Modern (2020), “A Room of One’s Own” at Leica Gallery, Istanbul (2018), “99 Squares” Art On Istanbul (2018), “What Story?” at Kasa Gallery (2017), “Body – Human of the Anthropocene” European Capital of Culture, Wrocław, Poland (2016), Foto Istanbul International Photography Festival (2015), Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair (2015, 2012) and “Borders – Orbits 09” Siemens Sanat (2011).

Since 2015.

Meltem Işık currently lives and works in Istanbul. Since 2015, she teaches in the Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Department, at Sabancı University.
