Wang Du
Visual artist
Location: Paris (France)
Originally from Wuhan (Hubei province) in the People’s Republic of China. Wang Du studied visual arts at the Canton School of Fine Arts before becoming a teacher there. After a nine-month stay in Chinese prisons, the fruit of his cultural and political activism, he settled permanently in France in 1990. Faced with a new environment, where media and advertising representations seem to replace reality. His work focused on the press image. Literally give weight to these images. He transforms the two-dimensional reproductions found in the press into a three-dimensional sculptural volume. Wang Du, with humor and efficiency, produced one of the most unique works on this question of the real and the virtual.
