Doris Salcedo is a visual artist and sculptor of Colombian origin. His work is influenced by his experiences of living in Colombia. More generally composed of everyday objects such as wooden furniture. Clothing. Concrete. Grass and rose petals. Salcedo’s work shapes pain. To trauma and loss, while creating space for individual and collective grief. These themes stem from his own personal history. Members of his own family were among the many who disappeared in a politically troubled Colombia. Much of his work deals with the fact that while the death of a loved one can be mourned. Their disappearance leaves an unbearable void. Salcedo currently lives and works in Bogotá, Colombia.
