Giacometti and ancient Egypt

Institut Giacometti – Jun 22 to Oct 10, 2021 Paris (France)

The Giacometti Institute presents a new exhibition on Alberto Giacometti’s relationship to Egyptian art. In collaboration with the Louvre museum. The exhibition will offer a thematic route bringing together emblematic works by Giacometti. Exceptional loans of works from the Louvre.

Alberto Giacometti has always been fascinated by the works of ancient Egypt. That he has drawn throughout his career. This inspiration from Egyptian art is also regularly present in sculpture and painting. Both as a repertoire of forms and as an essential component of its aesthetic conception.

The Giacometti Institute, in collaboration with the Louvre Museum. Invites us to extend and deepen this relationship between the sculptor and Egyptian art. Based on original research of the sources used by the artist. The exhibition offers a thematic route. Made of dialogues between emblematic works of Giacometti and Egyptian figures. In particular that of the scribe, the art of the Amarna period and the portraits of the Fayum.
