Co-organized by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Julie Mehretu is a mid-career survey that will bring together nearly 40 works on paper. Auusi, 35 paintings dating from 1996 to the present day by Julie Mehretu (b. 1970, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia). First complete retrospective of Mehretu’s career. It covers more than two decades of its examination of history. Colonialism. Capitalism. Geopolitics. Of the war. Global uprising. The diaspora and displacement through artistic strategies of abstraction. Architecture, landscape, movement and more recently figuration.
Masters of Fine.
Mehretu’s scale game, as evidenced by his intimate drawings. His large canvases and his complex engraving techniques. Will be explored in depth. Mehretu received her Masters of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design. Among many awards and distinctions, is the recipient of an “engineering grant” from the MacArthur Foundation (2005). Also a national medal of arts from the US State Department (2015).
