Over the last two decades of his career, Bourgeois began to incorporate clothing from all stages of his life into his art. This developed into a body of varied works. From monumental installations to figurative sculptures and abstract collages. Incorporating textiles such as bed linen. The handkerchiefs. The tapestry and the tapestry.

Identity and sexuality.

Bourgeois’ fabric works explore themes of identity and sexuality. Trauma and memory. Of guilt and reparation which are at the heart of his long and rich career. “I have always been fascinated by the magic power of the needle. The needle is used to repair the damage. It is a request for forgiveness. Louise Bourgeois: The Woven Child sums up this wonderfully inventive and compelling final chapter in the work of this extraordinary artist.
