Tanya Bonakdar Gallery is pleased to announce Your ocular relief. Olafur Eliasson’s eleventh solo show with the gallery, on display until April 24, 2021 in New York City.

Your Eye Relief.

Since the early 1990s, Eliasson’s practice has focused on the investigation of perception. Often using natural phenomena to improve our understanding of each other and our environment. Your Eye Relief continues Eliasson’s long-standing research on cognitive and cultural conditions of perception. Seeking to offer an alternative to the current pressures that shape our existence.

In the dark space of the main gallery. Your Eye Relief, 2021, the eponymous work of the series. It unfolds in front of the viewer in the form of a light show evocative of shapes. Colors and shadows. The ever-changing sequence expands. Disappears on a large curved screen, behind which the viewer can see the devices responsible for it. An orchestra of lentils. Risms. Mirrors and colored filters slowly spinning in the beams of five projectors. The spotlight is broken down. Transformed by reflection and refraction into sequences visible on the screen. As each device spins at a different rate. The relationship between the different sequences is constantly evolving, always new. These lenses are at the same time the material of the exhibition. His conceptual inspiration. Most of the lenses shown here are from Eliasson’s own collection. They are recycled from works of art. From previous experiences that took place in the artist’s Berlin studio.
