Tracey Emin / Edvard Munch “The loneliness of the soul”

Tracey Emin has long been fascinated by Norwegian expressionist and painter from The Scream, Edvard Munch. In her own words, “I’ve been in love with this man since I was eighteen.” In 1998, she even created a haunting video piece filmed on the same Oslo platform where many of her well-known works were housed. This is just one example of how, like Munch, she embraces even the most painful experiences to create art.
The exhibition presents more than 25 works by Emin. Including paintings, some of which will be exhibited for the first time. As well as neon lights and sculptures. These works, which explore the solitude of the soul, were chosen by Emin to accompany a carefully considered selection of 19 oils. As well as watercolors from the rich collection and archives of MUNCH in Oslo, Norway.
This is the opportunity to see Emin’s work in a very personal show. The selection not only reveals how much of a constant inspiration Munch has been. In particular through his deep representations of women. But also showcases Emin’s vast skills as an artist. Which often combine painting, drawing and writing.
Seen together, the dark territories and raw emotions in which the two artists navigate will emerge as a moving exploration of grief, loss and desire.
