Visual artist
Location: Belgium

Wim Delvoye is a Belgian visual artist born in Wervik in 1965.
He is famous for his installation Cloaca (2000), known as the “poo machine” which reproduces the process of digestion. We enter food and at the end of the chain, excrement comes out.
He is an “artist-entrepreneur” and his work is a real business. Multiple assistants, lawyers and financial advisers support him in his projects that bring art together. Stock exchange listing and tattooed pigs.
Delvoye confronts the history of art. Flemish tradition and industry in an often extravagant way. From the football goal cage included in a stained glass window to the false marble paving made with ham. Nesting boxes adorned with sadomasochistic accessories. To tattooed pigs. The artist’s inventiveness and his taste for derision know no bounds.

Humorous and insolence.

Delvoye’s work confuses as much as it attracts. It is striking with its inventive richness. His humorous finds and his insolence in the face of cultural norms. By juggling science and popular culture. Delvoye combines impertinence and formal research through works parodying both artisanal know-how and scientific research.
