Carlos Tárdez
Painter
Location: Madrid (Spain)
Carlos Tárdez was born in Madrid, in 1976. He is a multidisciplinary artist, in whose work the protagonist of the message hidden in all his creations has particular importance. Both in painting and in sculpture, he achieved a level of quality that made him worthy, among many other recognitions, of the Medal of Honor of the BMW Prize in 2010 and 2018.
On the canvas, he tries to express the idea in the most direct way possible. His pictorial technique and the realism used are meticulous. Generating simple and resounding compositions in which emptiness acquires meaning. In many cases carries the conceptual weight in a treatment of space that drinks directly from abstract painting. It is a symbolic figuration, with a series of resources which have enriched its own iconography. The title of each of the works suggests and reinforces the idea on numerous occasions, always leaving open the subjective interpretation of the viewer.
Sculpture.
He combines his pictorial work with the sculptural. In both cases, there are mythological connotations that make the works full of double meanings. Reinterpretations of scenes and objects. This fact is particularly evident in his sculpture. It takes a preconceived idea or an object associated with a meaning and turns it around. Mythology covered with irony. These are generally small format pieces. Cast in resin and polychrome, although there are also works executed in bronze.
