Richard Whadcock studied at both Bristol Art College and the Royal College of Art. This gave him a solid training in painting and engraving. It uses aspects of engraving. Lithography in his approach to painting by eliminating everything that is insignificant for the image to work.
Whadcock incorporates elements from artists such as Cy Twombly. Robert Motherwell and others using their influences in his own works. Starting with a strong reference point in a sketch. From a photograph or even a souvenir. Then inevitably letting the painting process take over. Whadcock is able to create beautiful works that use a unique approach to layers and technique.
