All the energy of the interactive object / subject situation in Nicolás Lamas’s work becomes something dialectical. A sort of action and counter-action taking place over time. The entanglement between ideas and particles. The continuous sharpening of speculation and manufacturing through emerging materials. Locating evidence and releasing subversive energies trapped in objects are characteristics shared by both Nicolás’ work and archaeological disciplines. Each site opened and engaged by the artisan skills of making objects. By the sensitivity to release them has the potential for transformation. This, to shape a type of archeology that transcends the human category to position objects in new systemic structures.

The transmission of information.

By carefully handling the images. The texts and sounds associated with the detection. In the interpretation and transmission of information, Nicolás Lamas tries to make up the various inconsistencies generated by the representation. It creates a world rich in possibilities, permanent interactions. Ellipses, attractions and repulsions. Inversions between horizontality and verticality. Incompatibilities between vacuum and matter. Distortions of logic. From one piece to the next, Nicolás Lamas develops a meticulous network that allows the “system” to find its own balance in the imbalance.

Mexican artist Víctor Hugo Yáñez Piña is known for his incredible figurative sculptures in wax, resin and bronze. Her recent work explores the power of self-reliance to forge your own path. The piece, titled Self-Taught Man, presents a male subject. It is equipped with traditional carving tools. With a hammer and a chisel, which takes it upon itself to carve out its idealized form from a larger body.

While many figurative sculptures in the history of art explore the aesthetics of a “perfect” human form. Piña’s work is unique in its use of a sovereign subject who makes the choice for himself. Also, the tools given to do it. This idea was also explored by Brazilian artist Gabriel D’Orazio, who made a similar digital piece that looks like a marble sculpture.

Self-taught woman.

After completing the Self-Taught Man, Piña made a complementary sculpture. A woman who does the same job. Like her male counterpart, she is portrayed halfway through her task. She, too, uses a chisel and hammer to finish sculpting the rest of her body. Both Self-Educated Male and Self-Educated Female weigh approximately 22 pounds and are approximately 50 1.6 feet tall.

Studied and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. Poznań University of Fine Arts and LTP in Częstochowa. As well as in several educational establishments in Poland and abroad (Germany, Portugal, France). From the 1980s, he created Le Portrait d’un Polonais at a time of political transformation and solidarity. Since the 1990s, he has been working on a series of sculptures of figures in balance.

As a university student in Gdańsk, he witnessed the start of the solidarity movement. Which ultimately led to political transformation in Poland. This experience left a lasting mark on his work, permeating it with critical social and political aspects. “The Confession”, born from this political and cultural climate, won the most important sculpture competition of the time in Poland: “The Cross in the life of a modern man”, organized under the patronage of the Pope.

Balancing Sculptures.

“Balancing Sculptures” (The Grotesque of Transformation) the series of works imbued with the same spirit. Are the only statues in the world which, held in position in one or two places only, posed, for example, on a rope. A rod, a top of the pyramid, still keep their balance defying gravity. The technicist cord in the first works of the series was a symbol of precariously thin boundaries between the extremes of our states, choices, situations. The most recent sculptures show solitary figures in open space, who, to the rhythm of the movements of nature, perform mimed monodramas with astonishing acrobatics.

Museums.

His works are in museums. Galleries and government institutions. Including the Presidential Palace in Warsaw and diplomatic posts in the United States. In public space, like Balancing Sculptures on the grounds of the palace in Olsztyn. Recently, Kedziora has been the special guest of American events such as Art Basel Miami. Leonardo Drew is known for his dynamic large-scale sculptural installations. On the one hand, Drew’s sculptures can be seen as exercises in formalism. Anchored in the very experience of the gaze. On the other hand, these works explore memory. Thus, he uses a wide range of materials to evoke common elements. From human experience and our various stories.

Drew began his artistic career at a very young age. Exhibiting his work publicly for the first time at the age of 13. His initial work in drawing caught the attention of talent scouts at DC Comics magazines. Marvel Comics and Heavy Metal. After being introduced to abstraction through reproductions of works by artists like Jackson Pollock. It is inspired by work based on the processes of post-war American and European artists. Drew decided to focus on his fine arts training and immersed himself in exploring his own sense of abstraction. He then attended Parsons School of Design in New York City and received his BFA from Cooper Union in 1985.
