Carlos Tárdez
Painter
Location: Madrid (Spain)

Carlos Tárdez was born in Madrid, in 1976. He is a multidisciplinary artist, in whose work the protagonist of the message hidden in all his creations has particular importance. Both in painting and in sculpture, he achieved a level of quality that made him worthy, among many other recognitions, of the Medal of Honor of the BMW Prize in 2010 and 2018.

On the canvas, he tries to express the idea in the most direct way possible. His pictorial technique and the realism used are meticulous. Generating simple and resounding compositions in which emptiness acquires meaning. In many cases carries the conceptual weight in a treatment of space that drinks directly from abstract painting. It is a symbolic figuration, with a series of resources which have enriched its own iconography. The title of each of the works suggests and reinforces the idea on numerous occasions, always leaving open the subjective interpretation of the viewer.

Sculpture.

He combines his pictorial work with the sculptural. In both cases, there are mythological connotations that make the works full of double meanings. Reinterpretations of scenes and objects. This fact is particularly evident in his sculpture. It takes a preconceived idea or an object associated with a meaning and turns it around. Mythology covered with irony. These are generally small format pieces. Cast in resin and polychrome, although there are also works executed in bronze.

Katherine Bradford is a contemporary American artist known for her luminous paintings that merge abstraction and figurative motifs. Referring to outer space, to Superman. As well as the nocturnal paintings of Albert Pinkham Ryder and the brilliant colors of Mark Rothko. Bradford constructs its surfaces in thin washes that absorb and emanate light with eerie beauty. “What interests me the most is the language of painting. How people are able to say things with paint, ”she reflected. “When I first moved to Maine, I could see scenes from Marsden Hartley. They were everywhere. Yet I was also aware of what Hartley had done to the clouds, for example, to make them their own: those living, wonderful clouds. Born in 1942 in New York, NY, she attended Bryn Mawr College. She then got her MFA from SUNY Purchase. The artist currently divides his time between Brooklyn, NY and Brunswick, ME. Today, Bradford’s works are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Smith College Museum in Maine, the Worcester Museum of Art, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, among others.

Ivan Galuzine

Ivan Galuzine
Painter
Location: Oslo (Norway)

Ivan Galuzin’s artistic practice takes shape through media such as painting. Sculpture and installation and video. Alternating between figuration and abstraction. His works generate a dialogue between Galuzin’s particular artistic interests and the history of abstract painting. He communicates his conceptual concerns through material explorations that have been reified into abstract works. His interest in the human body. Waste, decomposition and the organic process of decomposition, leitmotifs of his artistic practice. Ivan encourages the exchange of traditional oil and acrylic paint with chemicals found in the human body such as calcium, sulfur and phosphorus.

Aleksander Rodchenko.

When created, Galuzin’s works resemble monochrome paintings. But the pungent smell of chemicals warns of something far more dangerous. The canvases are coated with a coat of industrial two-component paint that creates plastic-like, monochrome surfaces in pink, yellow and black. The intense stench of chemicals in two-component paint triggers strong somatic reactions. Thus, a feeling of decomposition which manifests itself on the surface of the paintings. The canvases are slowly but surely fracturing. Then, they begin to flake off like dead skin, like a pictorial equivalent, to the inevitable rotting of the body.

Monochrome paintings.

The works can be read in the context of the history of monochrome painting, which includes works that Russian supremacist Aleksander Rodchenko made in 1921. After making these works, Rodchenko said that “it is all over.” One consequence of the monochrome was to proclaim that painting had come to an end or telos. As a commentator on the countless proclamations of the death of painting. Galuzin’s deteriorated and rotting works appear to be a pictorial state of limbo. Like an ambiguous warning of total collapse or resurrection.

Conor Harrington (b.1980) is an Irish-born street / graffiti artist based in London, England. Conor attended the Limerick School of Art and Design and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2002. His career picked up quite quickly after graduation and years of street art and graffiti. His larger-than-life paintings on the sides of buildings have become increasingly popular. By taking inspiration from old masters and incorporating them into his works. Harrington also began to create gallery art with his murals that he would create in cities.

Dreamlike.

Harrington uses realistic images of people. He combines them with abstract elements. Then it incorporates meaning and a story related to the events unfolding at the time. His pieces have been called dreamlike. With the balance between the senses and then the realism of the characters in the play. Harrington’s use of the smooth lines of the human body. Against the hard and hard lines of the abstract form. It also gives juxtaposition and understanding. It’s a more modern room than you might think. His understanding and use of the combination of the old and the new in his pieces to create a harmony that the viewer can perceive is one of the things that sets Harrington’s work apart.

Graham Dean

Painter

Graham Dean has exhibited internationally for over 25 years and his work is part of numerous private and public collections around the world. He lives and works in Brighton, England.

The armor.

Dean considers the human body as “an enclosure for the emotions”. thus, his characters represent vessels that contain both ideas and emotions. Following Reich’s research on “armor”, Dean sees the body as “a memory bank: a thinking body. As the world becomes more and more congested, so will the bodies of the peoples ”. These central themes were the basis of his first solo exhibition at Waterhouse & Dodd. Subsequent exhibitions continued the exploration of the human condition and our relationship to our own environment.
Using a technique he calls “reverse archeology”. Graham Dean reinvents the traditional uses of watercolor to achieve a unique technique. Contrasting coats of paint are applied separately on heavy handmade South Indian paper.

Aaron Garber-Maikovska

Aaron Garber-Maikovska
Painter
Location: Los Angeles (US)

Los Angeles-based Aaron Garber-Maikovska is a multimedia artist whose work encompasses painting. The drawing. Sculpture and video. His style is marked by frenzied and expressive lines and colors. Perhaps taking the form of a letter, sign, portrait, comic book, or even calligraphy. These paintings seem illegible, almost cryptic. With lines and colors fading and out of sync. The viewer can attempt to examine the meaning of Garber-Maikovska’s work. However, the artist’s goal is to convey new modes of communication through gesture.

Visually, the paintings have bravado and a frivolous sense of movement and rhythm. From previous examples, with bold black lines, to later works. With a chaotic use of paint and pastel. Garber-Maikovska has an idiosyncratic approach that really stands out.

David Zinn

Painter/Street Art

David Zinn has been creating original works of art in and around Ann Arbor, Michigan since 1987. For over twenty years he has freelance work for a wide variety of commercial clients while simultaneously introducing “useless” art. In the world at large. His professional commissions included theatrical posters. Company logos. Educational cartoons. Landfill murals. Environmental superheroes. Hand painted corporate allegories and dump trucks. His less practical designs involved coasters. Restaurant placemats. Cake icing and snow. Now, thanks to the temptations of a sidewalk chalk box on an unusually sunny day, Mr. Zinn is known the world over for the art he creates under his feet.

Pareidolic anamorphosis.

David’s temporary street drawings are composed entirely of chalk. Charcoal and found objects. His drawings are always improvised on the spot thanks to a process called “pareidolic anamorphosis” or “anamorphic pareidolia”. Most of its creatures appear on Michigan sidewalks. But many have surfaced as far as the subway platforms in Manhattan. Village squares in Sweden and street corners in Taiwan. It has gained worldwide notoriety through sharing on Facebook pages. Instagram. Huffington Post. Graffiti Art Magazine. Bored Panda. Central China Television. Street Art Utopia and Endless Geyser of Awesome by Archie McPhee. His most frequent characters are Sluggo (a bright green monster with rod eyes and irreverent habits). Philomena (a phlegmatic flying pig), but the diversity of Mr. Zinn’s menagerie seems to be limited only by the size of the sidewalk and the spirit of the day.
